A project management tool built the way I actually think about work.
What it is
Most project management tools are either too simple (todo apps) or too heavy (Jira). I needed something in between — built around how I actually structure work as a solo operator and consultant.
Shaqeeso is a full-stack project and task management application that models work as a strict hierarchy: Portfolio → Project → Task → Subtask. That structure drives everything else — rollup estimates, critical path analysis, Gantt views — it all flows from knowing exactly where each piece of work sits.
It also ships with a lightweight CRM for tracking client and prospect outreach, with every field-level change on a lead logged via a Postgres audit trigger. The kind of thing a solo consultant actually needs, built into the same tool.
The name Shaqeeso (ሥቃዪሶ) comes from Somali — it means "work" or "the work to be done." That felt right.
Under the Hood
Portfolio → Project → Task → Subtask
Work is modelled as a strict four-level hierarchy. A Supabase Edge Function traverses the full tree to compute rolled-up time estimates — every parent knows the total effort of everything beneath it, in real time.
Kahn's Algorithm · Forward & Backward Pass
A dedicated Edge Function runs Critical Path Method analysis on project tasks using Kahn's topological sort, then calculates the full forward and backward pass to surface float and identify the critical path.
Overdue · Overrun · Blocked
A third Edge Function continuously scans for overdue items, time overruns, and blockers across the full hierarchy, generating a prioritised alert feed so nothing falls through the cracks silently.
Postgres Trigger · Field-Level History
The CRM pipeline logs every field-level change on a lead via a native Postgres audit trigger — not application-level logging. Full mutation history without touching the application layer.
